If your Trust Center has more than one product, you can assign a single item to more than one product instead of maintaining a separate copy for each. This guide covers how to add and remove products from an item, and the rules that apply when content overlaps or needs to stay separate.
Prerequisite
Multiple products required. This works only when your Trust Center has more than one product configured. If you have a single product, every item belongs to it by default and there is nothing to select.
What's included
When you edit an item, a Product(s) field lets you select which products the item belongs to. An item assigned to multiple products shares one set of content across all of them; editing it in one place updates it everywhere it's assigned.
The dialog title reflects how many products the item currently has, for example "Edit Item "Password Security" for Acme" for one product, or "Edit Item "Password Security" across 11 Products" for several.
Using the Multiple Product Editing product
Navigate to the Trust Center Editor.
Click the item you want to edit, which opens the edit modal.
In the Product(s) field at the top, select or deselect products.
An item must belong to at least one product. If you clear the field entirely, you'll see "Select at least one product for this item." and won't be able to save until you select one.
Adding a product to an item
Adding a product merges the item's current content onto that product. What happens next depends on whether the newly added product already has content for that same item:
Existing content on the added product | What happens |
None (empty or untouched) | The item is added immediately. No confirmation needed. |
Existing content | You'll see a confirmation before anything is deleted on the newly added Product. |
If the added product already has content, a dialog warns you that content that exists on the newly added product(s) will be deleted. Click Delete & replace to confirm, or Cancel to back out.
Important: There is no way to merge two versions of an item's content together. When you add a product with existing content, that product's version is deleted and replaced with the version you're editing.
Removing a product from an item
Removing a product from a multi-product item detaches that product from the shared content. What the removed product is left with depends on the item type:
Default items (from the Trust Library catalog) revert to their default, blank template for that product. The shared content is not preserved for it.
Custom items (created by you) simply stop showing that item for the removed product. No copy is kept.
Before saving, you'll see a confirmation dialog depending on whether you're removing the product you're currently viewing or other products.
Removing several products at once shows a bulleted list linking to each affected product's item.
Separating one product into its own item
If you want a product to keep its own copy of the current content and then edit independently going forward, use the Create separate item for “Product” button instead of removing the product outright. This button appears above the Product(s) field when the item you opened already has more than one product assigned.
In edit modal for an item.
Click Create separate item for “Product”.
In the dialog that opens, review the message.
Click Separate to confirm.
The active product keeps a full copy of the item's current content as a new, independent item. The remaining products keep the original item, unaffected. From that point on, editing either one only affects that item; they no longer share content.
Note: Separating a product is different from removing it. Removing a default item's product resets that product back to a blank template; separating gives it a full copy of the content to keep editing.
Restoring a default item to its template
For default (non-custom) items, a Restore to default action is available from the item's menu. This clears all content on the item back to its original template while keeping its current product assignments unchanged.
Open the item's menu and select Restore to default.
Review the confirmation.
Click Restore to default to confirm.
Use this when you want to start an item over from scratch without changing which products it belongs to.
