Overview
SafeBase's Messages feature lets teams collaborate directly within a questionnaire, enabling streamlined discussions about specific questions. Whether users need input from a teammate or want someone to verify a response, Messages keeps all conversations contextually located in one place—no more switching to Slack, Teams, or email.
Starting a Message
To begin a conversation on a questionnaire question:
Open the desired questionnaire in SafeBase.
Click on the specific question row that warrants discussion.
In the right-hand details panel, click the message icon.
This switches to the Messages view.
Type a message, use an @ to mention a teammate.
Click Send to post a message.
Replying to Messages
If a question already contains messages, users can continue the conversation:
Click the question row to view its message thread.
Type a response in the text field within the Messages UI.
Click Send.
Subscriptions & Notifications
SafeBase notifies users of new messages and mentions based on their subscription status for a question.
Subscription Triggers
Users become subscribed to a question when:
They write a message on that question
They're mentioned in a message on that question
They mention themselves on that question
Notification Types
Users will receive a notification via email and Slack (if the organization is utilizing the SafeBase Slack integration)
Mentions – Get a notification when someone mentions the user.
New Messages – Receive notifications for new messages on questions to which the user is subscribed.
Note: If the user views the message before the notification is sent, they won't receive a notification. Notifications include direct links to the related question in SafeBase, making it easy to respond quickly.
Notification Timeline
If users are mentioned or replies are unread, SafeBase automatically sends notifications after:
Email: 10 minutes
Slack: 1 minute
Finding Messages
There are two ways to locate messages:
Email & Slack notifications – The user follows the links in their email inbox or Slack thread.
Questionnaire page – Message icons appear next to questions that have messages:
Grey: No unread messages.
Blue: Unread messages are present.
Participation Eligibility
Any SafeBase user who can view a questionnaire can participate in its messages.
